“Art Evokes Its Own Understanding” was born from a passion for creating and sharing my art with others and from the differing interpretations I observed in my conversations about art as a whole. I recognize that everyone has a unique perspective, and therefore a unique way of understanding art and the world around us. My goal was to create a space for people to come and share their perspectives with one another, using my work as a catalyst for connection, conversation, and a pursuit of mutual understanding.

The “Missing Consonance” part of the name was a play on words, with “aeiou” making up the alphabet without its consonants, and then consonance — meaning harmony or agreement between different opinions and musical notes — being used to represent the value of bringing together our unique ideas in unity. If we remain insular as individuals only focused on our own thoughts and mindset, we stand incomplete and detached from a bigger picture, just like vowels missing consonants. But when we are able to exchange thoughts, feelings, and impressions with one another side by side, we begin to become more complete.

In short, the purpose of this show was to host a gathering of Missing Consonants, and to create a space that encouraged collective engagement with the hope of developing Consonance and understanding.
